Our Story

The Artful Parcel Found Us One Brushstroke at a Time

What began as a tech project for an Australian artist grew into a colorful mother-and-daughter business right here in the Portland area.

The path was not planned, but the best creative adventures rarely are.

Built with original art, family teamwork, and the belief that creativity should feel joyful and approachable.

It Started With an Artist Named Jenny

Before The Artful Parcel existed, Cindy Strong was working behind the scenes with Australian artist and art teacher Jenny Grahek.

Jenny hired Cindy to handle the technology for her growing art business. Cindy built the systems, online membership, and sales experience that allowed customers to purchase Jenny’s original art kits and follow her painting tutorials from home.

Somewhere between the websites, tutorials, and colorful canvases, Cindy fell in love with the business.

When Jenny decided to step away from online sales and focus on teaching art in person, Cindy saw an opportunity that was too special to let disappear. She offered to purchase the business and the rights to use Jenny’s original designs and tutorials.

Jenny said yes, and the first pieces of The Artful Parcel were officially in place.

Then Life Added Another Color

For a while, Cindy owned the business but did not give it the attention it deserved.

Then her daughter, Amy, found herself between jobs.

The two began talking about creating the painting kits and selling them at vendor markets throughout Portland and the surrounding communities. Vendor events are a big part of Portland culture, and Amy already knew that world well.

She owns King Tater Events, a business that organizes and manages vendor events for businesses and community organizations.

Suddenly, everything fit together.

Cindy knew the artwork, kits, systems, and online side of the business. Amy knew vendor events, customers, and how to create a welcoming in-person experience.

The Artful Parcel became a true mother-and-daughter adventure.

Two Women. Two Roles. One Colorful Business.

Cindy

The Kit Creator

Cindy works behind the scenes creating the kits and making sure every piece is ready for its creative adventure.

She prepares the paintings, organizes the supplies, creates watercolor tracers, builds the online experience, and carefully packages everything customers need to begin.

Cindy is disabled and unable to walk without assistance, which limits her mobility. The business has grown around what she can do best: creating, organizing, designing, building systems, and turning a collection of supplies into a parcel filled with possibility.

Amy

The Event Connector

Amy takes The Artful Parcel out into the community.

She sets up the displays, welcomes customers, sells the kits at local vendor events, and brings the energy of the business to life in person.

Her experience running King Tater Events gives her a natural understanding of local markets, vendors, venues, and the wonderful people who support small businesses throughout the Portland area.

Together, Cindy and Amy have created a business that works because each brings something different to the table.

A Portable Way to Create

Making Room for Watercolor

As The Artful Parcel grew, so did our curiosity.

Cindy learned how to create watercolor tracers inspired by Jenny’s artwork and began developing watercolor kits to complement the acrylic collection.

Our watercolor kits offer a smaller, portable way to create. Each watercolor kit includes a tracer and an inspiration image to guide you while still leaving plenty of room to make the painting your own.

  • Easy to take on a trip, enjoy at the park, or bring to a gathering
  • A quiet creative break you can pull out almost anywhere
  • Includes a tracer and an inspiration image to guide you
  • Plenty of room to make the painting your own

Growing Beyond the Vendor Table

Portland-area vendor markets gave The Artful Parcel a place to begin connecting with customers in person.

When colder and wetter weather slows the outdoor market season, we keep creating.

We are expanding into:

  • Private paint parties
  • Artful Parcel painting events
  • Acrylic and watercolor kits
  • Blind Date With Art mystery kits
  • School art-kit sponsorships
  • New original and licensed painting designs

The business keeps evolving because creativity does too.

Why We Do This

We believe making art should feel welcoming, not intimidating.

You do not need years of experience, expensive supplies, or a perfectly organized art studio. You just need a little time, a willingness to try, and a parcel filled with the right materials.

Our goal is to make it easier for people to step away from the screen, pick up a brush, and experience the simple satisfaction of creating something with their own hands.

Your painting does not have to look exactly like the original.

In fact, we hope it looks like yours.

Packed by Hand. Shared With Heart.

Every Artful Parcel kit passes through real hands before it reaches yours.

It is planned, prepared, packed, and sent into the world by a small mother-and-daughter business that believes creativity can meet you exactly where you are.

At home. At a vendor market. At a paint party. In a classroom. On your own or surrounded by friends.

There is always room for another person at the creative table.
